| Christian Volkmann received his degree of Diplom-Architekt from the Federal Technical Institute (ETH) in Zurich and his Vordiplom from the Technical University of Berlin.
Before establishing aardvarchitecture with Lynnette Widder in 1997, he was a designer and project architect for Mario Campi/Franco Pessina in Lugano, Switzerland (1992-96). He collaborated with that firm independently on the design and construction of the Pedus Boarding-House in Berlin (1996), which was featured in the Bauwelt Berlin Annual 1997.
From 1997-98, he did design and construction administration on the Uli Knecht chain of high-end men's wear stores throughout Germany for Selldorf Architects in New York.
His work with aardvarchitecture includes competition work, such as the East River Shoreline Pool (1998), which received a citation from the Van Alen Institute and was featured in the New York Times and Architecture magazine.
Aardvarchitecture's work has been exhibited at the Urban Center and the Tenement Museum in New York and featured in Archis magazine.
Volkmann was the recipient of grants from the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst and the Friedrich Stipendienfond. Current projects with aardvarchitecture include new construction of a row house in Harlem, New York City, and a single family house on Long Island.
